Almost ten years ago, I fell ass-first into a job I didn't even know existed: Community Mental Health. The service is aimed at assisting the most severe individuals in the community- paid for by Medicaid. A way to mitigate to burden lack of appropriate treatment and care, community mental health involves day-to-day services, working to increase stability and quality of life. As the population is seriously afflicted, their problems are often nightmare scenarios, and as you can imagine, require much help.
I have learned that preconceived notions are usually wrong, and the clients are not very different from you or myself. I hope you enjoy their stories, and see a different perspective on mental health and treatment.
